Last weekend (the first weekend of July) the Tour de France came to Rotterdam for the prologue and the first stage. On Saturday (the 3th of July) I went to see the prologue taking place. They set out a route of 8,9 km through downtown Rotterdam crossing the two biggest bridges: the "Erasmusbrug" and the "Willemsbrug". During this prologue the riders start a minute apart, they have to try to make the best time in order to win.

My father managed to get hold of two 'VIP tickets', which meant we got to sail on a boat through the harbor of Rotterdam. The boat then docked beneath the Willemsbrug where we got to see the cyclists pass by. The first part of the day started out with great weather, but later in the afternoon it started to rain. The riders which got to start during the first part of the day had an advantage to the riders which got to start later in the afternoon, because of the changing weather conditions which made the road wet and slippery. It's quite spectacular to see the riders very close by while they are cycling at 50 km per hour.

Bellow you'll find an Google maps containing some geotagged photo's of the boat trip and the prologue followed by a slide show of the photo's.
