Hobby's and interests

I am interested in several different things. Off course information technology is one af them. Besides that I love listening and making music. I also like to read about various topics, from philosophy to music to action thrillers.

From the moment I saw my first computer I was hooked. The constant challenges and complexity of informatical problems is what I like. Once I started programming, first in QBasic and later in PHP, Java and others, the love for computers grew. A lot more about my programming interestes can be found on this website.

After a lot of annoying crashes in Windows I started experimenting with Linux. After a while and a lot of hopeless hours installing, messing up and re-installing I finally got the hang of it. At this point Mandriva 2007 is my OS of choice, I can really recommend it to everybody. By now Mandriva Linux has become quite user friendly and easy to install. So you can say that Linux and the open source community is one of my main interests, whith respect to information technology.

Besides computers I am very much into music, both listening and playing. I am mainly interested in Classic Rock music, from Whitsnake via Eric Clapton to Pink Floyd, from the Beatles via the Dire Straits to Led Zeppelin. My all time favorite band is The Rolling Stones, I especially love their guitarist Keith Richards. In my spare time I play in a Keith Richards coverband called The X-Pensive Barbarians as a bass player. I am also active as an administrator on a big dutch stonesforum, of which I am a founding memeber.

Another interest of mine lies in reading books. Specifically books about philosophy, politics, and psychology, because these books make me think about the world and about human life.
